Have been reading "The More You Watch, The Less You Know" by Danny Schechter. In it, there's a quote from Bertol Brecht circa 1927:

I really wish they would invent something else in addition to the radio...Future generations would then have the opportunity to be astounded by the way broadcasting made it possible to say what it had to - to the entire planet Earth - to see that it had nothing to say.
